I was staying in the town I was raised. One of the superb desk staff took me to a wing of the hotel where they had a school of journalism display from UNC. There was a framed picture of my father there. The staff took a picture of it and sent it to me. I thought it was just about the kindest gesture ever.
Nope, it was heaven.

The hotel is a wonderful place & the historical info is extremely well presented.
The pub looked great having just been opened after renovations, but unfortunately it was full of unpleasant paint fumes so we could not bring ourselves to sit in there.

The service was first-rate. As soon as you drive into the driveway, hotel guest is there to open the door and greet you. The food in the restaurant was excellent. Well actually, I was in the lounge as the restaurant wasn't open the times I went ther to eat but the setting was awesome as was the food
