Located on the southeast coast of the Persian Gulf in the United Arab Emirates, the city of Dubai is a spectacular destination that lays claim to plenty of attractions and a perpetually sunny climate.

Sights and Skyscrapers

Dubai has an international reputation as a place of innovation and modernity that also carefully retains its heritage, making it a fascinating place to visit.

A great neighborhood to start exploring is Deira, an area that demonstrates a blend of commercial developments with traditional Arab souks like the famed Gold Souk. Old meets new here, with mosques sitting alongside skyscrapers like the National Bank of Dubai, an incredible building of reflective glass. Deira is also near Trade Centre 1, a collection of huge constructions along Sheikh Zayed Road. Those visiting for work can unwind at the tranquil Safa Park in Business Bay, which is handy for visiting the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

A must-see is the iconic Grand Mosque, a magnificent structure close to the Dubai Museum, which boasts a wealth of impressive artifacts dating from as a far back as 3,000 BC. The museum is housed in Al Fahidi Fort, the oldest existing building in the city.

Retail Therapy

Truly spectacular retail can be found at the Mall of the Emirates, the world’s first shopping resort. In addition to the endless opportunities for splashing out, the resort is home to a cinema, more than 90 restaurants and cafes plus the world-famous Ski Dubai – the only indoor ski resort and snow park in the Middle East.

Dubai Marina Mall is a cosmopolitan venue of more than 130 shops, with designer brands such as Balmain placed next to high-street favorites including Monsoon and Coast. Alternatively, those seeking more traditional retail can head to the textile souk in Bur Dubai, a colorful market with an assortment of weaves and embroidery from around the world.

Recreation and the Outdoors

If the balmy heat of the outdoors sounds tempting, Jumeirah Beach is a stretch of coast covered in white sand where lavish hotels, resorts and housing complexes stand proudly on the edge of the Gulf. What’s more, the Dubai Marina, with a four-kilometer waterfront boardwalk, is a lovely place to stroll around and take in the breathtaking scenery. Marine Beach is an idyllic spot where tired adults can kick back and relax after a busy day; for night-time adventures there is Nasimi Beach, where the party starts as soon as the sun goes down.

A bit further from town but worth the journey is Aquaventure Waterpark at Atlantis, an epic waterpark with crazy waterslides like The Tower of Neptune and The Tower of Poseidon. Other places to take young’uns include KidZania and Magic Planet, an entertainment center packed with rides and arcade games.
