Management has been able to hand-pick superb staff. This, we think we can come back a third time

Food and service were excellent, central location on a quiet back street.Pleasant grounds and public areas. Only down side was the damp smell through the "Quiet Room" (possibly due to the well) and the old, worn out mattress in room 4. Little wonder the ghost that haunts the room can't rest!

Overall good service very helpful and pleasent staff, room was adequate but very stuffy only one small window.Food good and plentiful.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very comfortable rooms with space to move about. Towels changed every day was exccellent. tea and coffee facilities always topped up. Loved the shower - so easy to use - no fiddling with taps to get right temperature! Excellent breakfast and evening meal very good too. My only "complaint" would be that the portions at the evening meal were too big!

A little bit old fashioned but excellent location for a night out in York. Breakfast was fantastic and the staff very friendly, a touch expensive for a double room that was in need of some updating but on a par with other hotels centrally located.

A lift would have been a great help as I have difficulty coming down stairs. When I last stayed at the hotel it was only small and I did not realies how much it had grown and, therefore, didi not specifically ask for a ground-floor room. However the room was bright, clean and comfortable, the service was excellant and I would have no problems in recommending it.

Very good location. The rooms were clean but basic, they bathroon was very small. Good choice for breakfast, however my husbands cooked breakfast had been stood a while before being served. Plenty of free parking was a good advantage. Slightly miffed at the fact that when I rang the hotel to inform them I had left something in my room, reception said she would check with housekeeping & get back to me - she never! When I called the next day I was told the had found it, but I had to pay £5 to have it returned. Overall would go back again.

This hotel is pleasant, however the rooms are small and the bathroom (no bath) was tiny. There was confusion over the 'special offer' dinner regarding the timing of the meal and the restaurant was apparently busy at the times required for the booking. York is an expensive place to stay so we supposed that the amount charged was reasonable for the city. Parking was a nightmare but free!
