Things to do Seattle is an eccentric and fascinating city – one of its unique sights is the Market Theater Gum Wall, in Post Alley at Pike Place Market. This is a wall covered with chewing gum, in some places a few inches thick. The tradition of sticking gum to the wall is thought to have begun in 1993. Pike Place Market is Seattle’s original farmers’ market, established in 1907. Fresh produce, handmade jewelry and gifts, flowers and fashion from local designers can be found here. Around the corner from the market is the first Starbucks. No trip to Seattle would be complete without a journey to the top of the Space Needle. From a height of 520 feet, sightseers can admire breathtaking 360-degree views of the city. Parks Seattle has dozens of parks and green spaces to explore, perfect for people-watching or enjoying a tranquil break from the urban bustle. The Hiram M Chittenden Locks in Ballard are worth seeing for the Pacific Northwest salmon jumping the fish ladders.
