The concierge' was outstanding. Kudos for having such an excellent employee
Very poor service at checkin. With a known convention booked, in addition to a holiday weekend, the staffing at check in and cleaning service should have been increased to accomodate the workload. We waited 3 hours for check in which did not allow time for our plans. Additionally we were given incorrect information. We we told to pay Valet service outside to save. $10.00, but once outside they refused to take cash for the fee. I will give a provisional recommendation and not w/o caveats.

Our room was very quiet--we didn't hear any noise from outside at all.
The room and bathroom were nicely updated, with great lighting in the bathroom.
We really appreciated having a Starbucks in the lobby!
We took the train into town from the airport, and it was very convenient--a stop only a block and a half from the hotel.

The location was great for the theater and art institute. The Lockwood had excellent food.
The room was quite small. You many neeed to remodel to expand rooms that are in comparable price range in Chicago even if you lose a few rooms in doing so. Also the bathroom could not have been smaller.

We enjoyed the room and the proximity to the theatre.
Did not enjoy the very, very long wait to check in.

The ambiance of the Palmer House as well as the location.
The ice machine was out of order during my three day stay. The note said to go to a different floor for ice. I thought this was unacceptable and the machine should have been repaired ASAP for the guests - big inconvenience.
While checking me in, the agent at the front desk said that he upgraded my room - it was not upgraded.
