The staff I encountered were very friendly, from the front desk staff to the bartenders (both Friday & Saturday night) to those persons serving breakfast.
having grown up in Springfield and knowing this hotel from many years ago, I was pleased with the upgrades. my room was clean and spacious.

The staff was very welcoming. We especially liked a woman named Rose at the front desk. She was a delightful imp! And on the ball.
I know that you cannot find a pillow that everyone likes, but we did not like the pillows. And my wife wished for a mirror above the desk.

I enjoyed my stay at The State House Inn, an Ascent Hotel Collection Member. The staff was very nice and helpful. The buffet breakfast had a lot of variety and was very good. Wifi was excellent. I chose this hotel because of where it was located close to the Amtrak station and downtown Springfield, IL and it did not disappoint. It was indeed close by and I was able to get around without needing a car nor public transportation. I also felt their rates were very reasonable and unlike other hotels I looked at in the area I was able to spend less than half of what I was seeing at other hotels and still get quality.

Bed was comfortable. Breakfast buffet was good.
Bathroom: shower curtain didn't reach the floor, therefore water from shower leaked over bathroom floor, sink bowl was too high and hard to reach, shower water pressure too low, bathroom too narrow.
Couldn't look out window.
