Red Lion Inn & Suites Olympia, Governor Hotel

Comfortable, well-located and not flashy. Very helpful front desk staff (Thomas, during our stay). I'd stay again except that after our experience I would not feel safe in a fire/evacuation situation (see below).

Fire alarm the morning we checked out, which (had it been a real fire) would have been very serious. Certainly on our floor (7) and the floors I traveled down in the elevator during the alarm, the fire alarm was unrecognizable as an alarm. It was just a loud sound, like a drill. Too loud to comfortably just stay in our room, or in the corridor, but certainly not a fire alarm sound. As a result, several people on our floor were just confused about what was going on. The elevators still worked (seriously?) so again - nobody is thinking this is a fire alarm situation. Even the maid on our floor had no idea what was happening. We were checking out at the time, and it was only once I'd arrived at the lobby floor in the elevator (which - seriously - the elevators still worked during a fire evacuation?) that I realised what was happening. Lots of people milling around in confusion, firemen outside and one bad-tempered hotel employee telling people that he hadn't been told anything so they could return to their rooms at their own risk but he hadn't been given the all-clear. I mean - this was truly disgraceful. He wasn't even wearing a high-vis jacket. He was not recognizable as a hotel employee, he was not taking charge, and he was interacting in a vague and bad-tempered way with a lobby full of confused guests. Had this been a real fire situation, we would have been in real trouble. To summarise: Fire alarm not recognizable as an alarm on multiple if not all floors except for lobby. No 'silent' alarm as far as I could tell Staff not informed about what the fire alarm sounded like (not the maid on our floor anyway) ELEVATORS STILL WORKED DURING A FIRE ALARM No communication from hotel to rooms or clear communication in lobby No fire marshall or uniformed hotel staff taking charge of the situation.

The beds were very comfortable. And the rooms were nice side.

Out of the 6 days I stayed there we had trouble 3 of the days with the key not working in the door. The maintainance was suppose to charge the batteries in the door but I don't think it was done.

The beds were the best ! I've stayed at a lot of hotels but the beds AND pillows were really comfortable.

Every room was recently updated and they were still in the process but there were missing light bulbs and an outlet was open and not secured properly and I did get a shock.

My now wife and I booked two rooms for our wedding. Our bridal parties stayed with each of us in our separate rooms. The hotel was very accommodating and placed us on the opposite ends of the same floor so we didn't see each other the day of our wedding :). They were also generous in providing us with extra parking passes for hair, makeup, and our photographer for when they were there on our big day! The rooms were very nice and had great views of Capital Lake! Would stay there again.

The hotel is ideally situated in downtown Olympia. The Hotel was clean, the rooms simply but nicely appointed and breakfast was included. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

Lovely view of the lake, close-in location within walking distance of the conference we were attending, not to mention the Farmer's Market and good places to eat. We had a concern about a room of noisy young people next to us on Saturday night. We spoke with the desk clerk, and the issue was handled - slept like a baby.

Room was clean and had nice decor, bed was comfortable, quiet surroundings
