Excellent mid-value hotel with prime location, efficient staff, excellent hygiene and good value for money for the Hong Kong high-density market

The front staff told us we were upgraded from the room we booked on the internet? I'd hate to see what a standard room was like? It was puzzling as we were only in the room for 5 hours. We arrived @ 1:00 am and checked out @ 6:00 am the same day. Honestly we found the room to be very small & cramped. It was difficult to find an area for our three suitcases, without them being in the way. On a positive note the location was excellent and the room very clean. The staff was friendly enough as well, but I wouldn't stay again unless I could have a larger room for the price.

I was looking for a hotel with a harbour view and was willing to pay extra for that. The Kowloon was the only one I could find that had rooms available when I needed one. However, there is no point in paying any premium for a harbour view here as the harbour is virtually out of site unless you were on the top floors(there are buildings in the way). I complained about this at the time and found that there were no better views available and no standard rooms at lower price, the staff dealt with everything well but did not offer any discount. Another problem I had was the heating didn't seem to work properly and I was too cold, even with the thermostat at full (and I'm Scottish). As I only stayed one night and arrived very late, I told them later. I was offered a discount at any time in the future, which I may well take up. My advice, book very early and request the highest floor possible for a harbour view or just get a standard room.

Although the room was a little on the small side, it made up for it in location, view, and service! The staff could not have been nicer!! The only improvement I could suggest is that there be a more casual area for dining, be it a "snack bar" or self-serve, so that the guests do not have to be 'dressed' to have coffee and a muffin, or something equally casual. The same applies for lunch and dinner -- a more casual restaurant/snack area would be good.

Rooms were too small had to jump over luggage to move around the room really only suitable for one person, we were there for only one nite otherwise we would have had to make other arrangements. We did request an larger room but then you needed to upgrade to a suite. Requested Harbour views the veiw was between 2 buildings. Apart from the above it is in a great location and staff were very firendly.

Our stay was ghastly. After years of staying in decent HK hotels we were forced to stay in the Kowloon as we had to book at short notice during a busy period. The room was so small we had to crawl over the beds to move around the room. Our suitcases had to remain stacked on top of each other. The bathroom was impossible and quite old and run down. We looked at a deluxe room which was the same size but brighter with new paint and a bowl of fruit. The location is brilliant of course but you might just as well stay at the YWCA opposite - the facilities are better and cheaper. The Kowloon is bar none the most uncomfortable hotel we've ever stayed in.
