Best Western Plus Hacienda Hotel Old Town

The hotel is directly in Old town, a 4 block walk from Amtrak and we purchased a $5 hop on, hop off pass for the trolly. The room was larger than expected and very comfortable

We left for the day about 9am, returned @ 4. The room had not been serviced so we asked for towels, which were immediately delivered

We like to stay at Your Hotel whenever We are in San Diego

The hotel was nicely laid out and I really liked the courtyards with tables and chairs for relaxing. Having coffee in the lobby eachmorning was a treat, many thanks. Brendan (the van driver) was very nice, courteous and extremely accomodating. He provided invaluable information on various attractions in San Diego.

We were very disappointed with the noise originating from the people in the room above ours. It sounded like a herd of elephants moving around each night (when they arrived back at 2:00 am) After 2 nights of listening to this several times each night, we complained to the desk clerk who advised us that they would be leaving that day, so we did not move to another room. Lo and behold, that night, again we had the loud stomping, walking around very heavily and banging for most of the night. The last night we stayed however was by far the worst. I don't know if they were jumping off the beds as well as stomping around the room at 2:00 am and ater, but my husband finally got out of bed stood on our bed and banged the ceiling. The noise finally stopped. As we checked out, the desk clerk (who recognised us from the day we compained) asked us how our room was and we told her "same noise!", she checked again and admitted that she had been mistaken, the room that was above us was still occupied by the same people. what otherwise would have been a very nice stay turned into a nightmare due to lack of sleep for 4 nights!

It is a beautiful facility and we enjoyed our stay!

The lady at the check-in desk didn't speak very good English and it was hard to understand her directions!

I loved the hotel itself. Comfortable, clean, and beautiful. I also love the Mexican restaurants and Old Town atmosphere.

The only thing I did not like was that there are no super markets in the immediate area. Without a car, you tend to rely only on Mexican restaurant food (emphasis on 'restaurant') for breakfast, lunch, and dinner every day. Also, there are no drug stores around there for certain immediate needs.

During my second night people in the room next door became very noisy at 2 a.m. The walls were as thin as paper. I could hear everything. After waiting for them to quiet down, I finally called reception. They sent up security, who apparently told them to be quiet, but the noise became even worse after he left. I called again, security came again, and finally it began to be quiet at about 4 a.m. My sleep was so disturbed that I never got back to sleep before my 6 a.m. wake-up time. I mentioned it to reception the next morning, and she was very sympathetic but said that she could refund no money, since I prepaid. This is a very good lesson. I will never use another booking agent, but will book directly with the hotel from now on. Oh, another thing, the stopper in the bathtub did not work, so I could not take a bath. The parking structure was extremely difficult to navigate with tight corners and narrow stalls. The entire complex of buildings appeared to be a fire-trap.

The room was quirky and fun. The location was great for seeing old town.

The shuttle did not run before 7:00AM.
