Hotel Winneshiek

My granddaughter and I returned one evening at 11:30 p.m. quite hungry looking for a snack machine. The gentleman at the desk apologized when I asked if he knew where there was a snack machine after I told him I looked all over and could find none. He apologized and took me back to where I could get some cake. I wanted two slices but after inquiring about the cost I decided on 1 slice. The gentleman said he would bring it up to the room. You should have seen the look on our faces, especially that of my granddaughter’s, when he presented two slices of decadent chocolate cake with ice cream. What a treat. This gentleman went out of his way to make sure we had our snack. I felt he went above and beyond. I wish I knew his name. I took a photo of us with smiles on our faces as we demolished our treat. This little 11 year old granddaughter was so excited to tell her parents all about it in detail. Thank you sir for treating us as special guests.

I was unable to close the pocket door to the bathroom.

The atmosphere was lovely- so historic, but all the amenities. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed both the local brews in the bar, and a very nice breakfast in the restaurant.

Maybe spend a little more on really good coffee at breakfast- there are very good coffees just steps from your door- why not offer them in the restaurant?

The entire staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. We were informed about the location of our room, the restaurant and the bar area. In addition a be were provided a brief history of the hotel. The room was very clean and spacious. Looking forward to our next trip to Hotel Winnesheik,

Room was a little cold.

The hotel is attractive in itself and is made more so by the convenient location in Decorah, the nice restaurant and the overall ambiance of the town.
