With a classic American feel, but with every modern amenity, Miramar Beach is a great alternative to the more crowded resort towns. Shopping Miramar Beach is home to the largest designer outlet center in the United States, known as the Silver Sands Outlet Mall. With over 100 shops, there’s a little something for everybody who needs a good retail fix, including: Aeropostale, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Eddie Bauer Outlet, Izod, J Crew, Michael Kors, Oakley Vault and more. Between shopping, visitors can grab a bite to eat at Cheeseburger in Paradise or order a coffee at San Gelato Café. For a more low-key experience, shoppers head to Alvin’s Island near Silver Sands Outlet Mall. It’s a one-of-a-kind tropical department store for the beach enthusiast, where the young and hip browse bikinis, board-shorts and all the accessories for summer fashion. There is also similar beachwear at the Aqua Surf Shop and at Beach Bums Swimwear. Golfing and Outdoor Activities Miramar Beach also attracts a lot of golfers, especially thanks to the first-class Golf Academy at Sandestin where beginners can learn the ropes and experienced players can fine-tune their skills. Other favorites include the Raven Gold Club, an 18-hole course carved through marshes, wetland and the pine trees of Sandestin. There’s also the Golf Garden of Destin with PGA golf instruction, and the relaxing Seascape Golf, Beach & Tennis Resort, home to18 fairways winding through beautiful green forests and around quiet lakes. For those who’d prefer to be on the water, kayaking on South Walton’s Rare Dune Lakes is a big hit among the locals. South Walton has the highest concentration of coastal dune lakes in the United States, each abounding with stunning flora and fauna. Renting a kayak and gliding along one of the 15 natural lakes is easy, and offers prime opportunities for wildlife spotting. What’s more, there is the scenic 190-mile Timpoochee Trail bike path to ride. And, of course, the beaches are always welcoming! Spectacular sunsets can be seen from Grayton Beach State Park. Eating and Drinking Coffee lovers flock to Fonville Press for a freshly brewed cup of creamy cappuccino, at Alys Beach, as well as Amavida Coffee in Seaside. For the vino connoisseur, Vin’tij Wine Boutique has an impressive selection. With its ocean setting, it makes sense that Miramar Beach does seafood well. The crab cakes at the Red Baron Grayton Beach are incredible; the meat is grilled and crowned with a citrus beurre blanc. Smiling Fish Café is another great stop.
