Rooms were ready before checkin, which was a really nice surprise. Room cleanup ladies were very accommodating of our sleeping late due to late night northern lites viewing. Restaurant staff and food great too. No complaints.

I have been staying at the Explorer regularly for some 15 years now and the one thing I really appreciate is that even though I almost always arrive early because of the flight schedules, the reception staff always/always makes an effort to find my a room as quickly as possible, something no other hotel in YK even pretends to do. I am always welcomed by the restaurant staff and I find the food to be well above average in quality and variety.
As an older person, I really hate that 45 degree angle climb to get in to the hotel but I don't think there is much that can be done about that.

The hotel is centrally located, with much of Yellowknife within walking distance. Service from all staff members I encountered was excellent. I stayed for six nights and the room was cleaned every day.
Paved guest parking lots would be a welcome improvement
