With many airline choices and an ever-increasing number of passengers, Zaventem Airport (officially Brussels Airport in English, ) still managed to win the Best Airport in Europe award from the International Air Transport Association following a survey of over 100,000 worldwide passengers. Quite a feat considering 2008’s 18.5 million passengers was an increase of 3.7% over 2007’s 17.8 million passengers, which was an increase of 7% over 2006. In addition to servicing such major airlines as Continental and Delta, Zaventem Airport also hosts many smaller budget carriers, 77 to be exact, from Adria Airways which flies to Ljubljana, Slovenia to Wind Jet, which flies to Forlì, Italy. If you’re looking for the convenience of one of the many hotels near Zaventem Airport, then our HotelsOne.com website can help you make sense of the many options.
The locals tell an amusing story about why the airport seems to experience so much foggy weather. When the Germans occupying Belgium in 1940 asked the people of Brussels where the best place would be to build a military airport, they pointed to a field known for its fog. Now the Germans are gone, but the airport is still here. The airport is very close to Brussels, and as with most major airports, Zaventem is connected to the city by bus and by highway and by train. In fact, the Zaventem Railway Station also connected directly to the cities of De Panne, Ghent, Hasselt, Landen, Nivelles, Quévy, Leuven and Liège and will soon provide a direct link with the cities of Antwerp and Mechelen as well. Right now the airport provides an hourly shuttle to Antwerp.
Unlike other airports, Zaventem Airport provides bike route separated from the motorway, as well as ample bike parking, so bicyclists and pedestrians can easily access their flight as well. Also unique is that a hotel near Zaventem Airport doesn’t have to be a typical generic airport experience. That’s because you can find on HotelsOne.com many hotels located in the nearby village of Zaventem itself, which offers a chance to experience small-town Belgian life with a quaint park with a lake, a Church with a steeple and many restaurants, cafés and shops.
