This old classic hotel still holds its old-world charm and ambience of plush luxury. The location could not be better, a short 5 minute stroll to the Sandton City shopping mall and best restaurants in town. Wonderful place to stay and the price is also very reasonable. Only small "downfall" is the distance and long corridors that have to be walked getting to the room, which can be confusing; easy to get lost (but not a problem at all). Loved it and will most certainly recommend it to anyone travelling to Johannesburg.

Friendly staff and great restaurant - Bull Run.
While breakfast was adequate - the cost of a continental breakfast for 2 was more expensive than dinner for 2 at the Bull Run Restaurant!

I have been using the Balalaika Hotel in Sandton City for the past 20 years and as usual it was up to the highest Standards possible. Of the Protea Hotel Group I rate No 1 (Protea Ryalls, Blantyre, Malawi) No 2 Protea Balalaika, Sandton,Joburg and No 3 Ptotea Hilton, Hilton KZN. I was not very pleased with Cape Castle, Cape Town as it was a bit like a UK rest house and not very friendly or personal. Regards, Mike Culpan

The location is excellent and the staff are very nice and helful especially the Concierge and service staff
