Centrally located and an always friendly staff.
Breakfast, "American Buffet" was practically inedible. Eggs were runny and luke warm, potatoes were barely warm, tasted like they had been cooked in fish oil. Waitress was very inattentive(there were few people there at the time). At $19.95 there was zero value. I've had better buffets at a motel. Since it is located in Japan Town there was really no where near to get an American Breakfast.

Corner room with great view of the city, sliding outside doors for ventilation, inner shoji doors for soft natural light, deep soaking bathtub. Loved being within Japantown and walking distance to many interesting shops and restaurants. Hotel conveniently located near bus line for travel to downtown.

The bell captain of 31 years service. I have been staying at the hotel since 1980, I think. And the bell captain has always been so helpful, cheerful and courteous. The fruit at breakfast was very fresh and delicious.

We've staid at Hotel Kabuki several times. It is our preferred SF hotel.
The last two times we staid, there were problems with the plumbing: hot water only dribbled out on one occasion; could not turn off the shower completely when running water in the tub; the controls for the water jets in the jetted tub did not work. It's a little troubling that this seems to be a persistent problem. As for cleanliness, exterior windows really dirty on the top floor of the garden wing; the rooms are excellent but one of the elevators smells very strongly of cleaning fluid.
