Great staff - really friendly. Great heritage building retrofitted to be a hostel. A good atmpsphere all around.
Only thing was that it was super hot weather for May (26 degrees plus!), but there was fans left in the room, so that was a nice touch.

Friendly attentive staff. Very comfortable beds! Conveniently located to sites and restaurants.
Lots of street noise both early and late.

For central Nanaimo this is excellent, super clean yet pleasantly livable accommodations complete with laundry and kitchen and other common areas. The bunks were comfortably bedded and windows offered views. Private shower and toilet units in the hall functioned well and were clean. Cafes and delis nearby, as is the sea wall walking area.
The distance to the Departure Bay ferry terminal is a walking distance of half an hour, but there are city buses for a couple of bucks (less than 10 minutes ride) . The "Greyhound type" bus station is at the Departure Bay terminal, and there are very few runs up and down Island. On the other hand the Metro Transit will take you up Island for a couple of bucks, or similar rate as downtown.
