Grand Naniloa Hotel Hilo - a Doubletree by Hilton

The location of course, but compared to the Hilo Hawaiian, it is much newer and cleaner and of higher quality. There are some very poor hotels in the vicinity and nothing competes with the new Doubletree by Hilton version of the Grand Naniloa. Of course this was Merrie Monarch week so all the special features such as the viewing party, fashion shows by Kini Zamora and Ari South, and the general excitement made for a different experience. What a treat to be allowed onboard the Hokulea, which was docked at the hotel for the week. The valet parking staff in particular were the best of the best. We fully intend to return to Hilo and stay here during a normal week.

I understand that such a special week has to be noisy, but the constant music from the restaurant was a bit loud, and sometimes quite annoying. Music is nit wallpaper and Hilton should look into mood sound installations as an alternative to incessant Jawaiian and the Hawaiian top 50.

We arrived well before the check-in time and they were super helpful and got us a room right away. I am allergic to down and they brought non-down pillows promptly when asked.

We enjoyed the stay. all the staff were very professional and friendly, the perfect combo. bar and restaurant staff the same . food at the the restaurant always good , sometimes exceptional ! mahalo Naniloa .

The restaurant food wasn't anything to rave about

It's location to everything in the Hilo area. I wish I had the time to play the 9 holes of golf.

Noisy a.c., even in the renovated section. windows that didn't open in the un-renovated section. i believe the renovation budget would have been better spent on maintenance. give the grand ol' girl a good scrub!

Proxcimity to shore, activities, close to eateries and businesses.

We will not stay there again. The beds. The beds are way too small even for one adult. too soft, too short. We didn't sleep well at all--2 nites! My husband, ten year old daughter and me-- I am 5.8''. We will pay extra for a high end hotel with great beds. People want GREAT comfy beds, other items not as vital. Thank you
