Hotel was great but the pool and gym facilities were far from upto the "4*" standard and in my opinion it is the only thing that would stop me staying at this hotel again.....

The cooked breakfast was very disappointing as the food was luke warm, even though we were in the dining room at 8.30am on the Saturday morning. The scrambled egg was totally unappetising and the orange jiuce had a strange taste. Our bathroom in room 107 had a very musty smell which I presume was from the shower water leaking over the side of the bath. This was disapppointing as the situation of the hotel is beautiful. The staff were very friendly and attentive and listened to our comments.

Hotel itself seemed fine but my room was disgraceful - looked dirty and tired, water pipes groaned, towel rail fell off wall, carpet was filthy - was only there for a night but wouldnt go again after being put in a room like that. Avoid room 218 at all costs.

My boyfriend and I had previously been to Hellidon Lakes and had a lovely time so decided to go back for valentines weekend. Unfortunately our second visit was disappointing. The en suite is beautifully decorated but the showerhead was cracked so spurted water out of the top, the shower door didn't close properly so flooded the floor and the towel rail didn’t work. The rooms are also tastefully decorated but the mattress was uncomfortable due to the fact that one side of the mattress was more worn than the other and I noticed various stains on the furniture and on the walls. We booked our evening meal in advance, again this was a disappointment. It was twenty minutes before our order was taken, then a further 15 minutes before we even got our drinks. The service throughout our meal was very slow and disorganised, receiving our bread rolls after our starter and being delivered food then not having the correct cutlery to eat with. I gained eye contact twice with a member of staff for them to ignore me when it was clear that we were waiting to be served. The staff were apologetic but clearly not trained properly to work efficiently in a busy environment. At breakfast we struggled to find a table as so may tables had been left uncleared and something that we ate gave us both an upset stomach that day. Checking out of the hotel caused similar problems. The service was very slow and although the staff were apologetic I was left with the impression that the service they provided greatly lacked organisation. I tried to make conversation with the staff whilst waiting to be checked out and mentioned that they had been very busy this weekend, the response was “um I suppose its been a bit busy” so I dread to think how they would cope with the hotel fully booked. I mentioned the problems we had in our room and we simply got an apology. It was nice for my boyfriend and I to get away in such a beautiful location. Due to our second visit I would not recommend this hotel for a weekend of relaxation, you are more likely to get the service you deserve on a weeknight.

The hotel is not the easiest place to find in the dark, even with a sat nav.I ordered room service, a tuna salad among other things, it took nearly an hour for the food to come, and when it did the tuna had turned into a piece of salmon, the eggs were warm and the new potatoes were cold, the chips were forgotten altogether.I phoned down to change my order to a chicken caesar salad and to remind them of the chips, another 30 minutes for a porter to arrive with the chips( no condiments) and the salad that had dry lettuce, dry chicken with a dollop of a mayonnaise type mixture dumped on the top. Upon chek out, I explained this and they did take the food(not the drink) from the bill, but an unpleasant stay was rounded off my a trip to the swimming pool before breakfast. You have to get changed then walk down a corridor to the pool, where you can tell no money has been spent on it for a while, peeling paint on the columns, not good.

For a 4 star hotel the rooms were extreamly dated, the leisure facilities left a lot to be desired. As I was getting out of the pool the metal step snapped off the handle bars that was one incident. Sitting down for my evening meal was an experience from waiting 20mins for a bottle of wine to sending back an inedible salad. Also your young waiting staff standing around in groups discussing who had the most to drink at the weekend yes entertaining but not what I want to hear. In essance I would not stay at your hotel again and I would not reccomend it to any of my colleagues.

Bit over priced. Had to wait an hour to sit down for food. Bar prices were very expensive. Went to the local pub instead.
