It’s the kind of destination that that has something for everyone, whether they’re looking for a relaxing vacation or a fun-filled getaway. The Life Aquatic Cancún is not just a resort-filled holiday spot; there is a wealth of excellent attractions that make the most of this incredible location. Right in the middle of the hotel zone is the Acuario Interactivo, a family-friendly venue that allows a hands-on approach with the goal of teaching visitors all about marine life. There are touch tanks available so visitors can pet rays, sharks, starfish and more; for the adventurous, dolphin swims and shark feeds can be arranged. Near Acuario Interactivo is the Boulevard Kukulkan, a street filled with great shopping and dining options. Keeping with the theme of water is AquaWorld, where adrenaline junkies come to play. Visitors can opt for a two-person speedboat to Nichupte lagoon for an afternoon of snorkeling in the second largest reef in the world, or, for those not afraid of heights, parasailing is a popular option. Aquaworld also offers diving classes, and after a lesson or two it’s possible to snorkel around the beautiful and untouched island of Isla Mujeres. Not far from AquaWorld is Scuba Cancún, another opportunity for both novice and experienced snorkelers to dive in. Shopping and Dining The La Isla Shopping Mall is the place to be for fans of retail therapy. The open-air complex borders the lagoon, and in addition to boardwalks, little canals meander through the area; a boat ride is a must. Big brands can be found here, including Bulgari, Diesel, Nine West, Zara, and Tommy Hilfiger. Dining options include Johnny Rockets, Planet Hollywood, and the Mexican La Casa de las Margaritas – it’s difficult to go wrong with a place name that translates to ‘The House of Margaritas’! For a more traditional taste of Mexico, Cancún’s Market 28 is filled with local handicrafts, food booths and small-scale restaurants. El Cejas is an excellent place for sampling local cuisine, especially Caribbean seafood specialties. The Beaches As far as beaches go, it’s hard to find anything better than Playa Tortugas. With its shallow, calm waters and powdery white sand, this gorgeous stretch of coast is where families tend to flock on full-day excursions. There’s a long pier for jumping off, and snacks can be bought at a palapa. Divers can take advantage of the Great Mayan Reef, which extends 450 miles to Honduras. If a bit of peace and quiet appeals, there is a ferry across to Isla Mujeres, where the public beaches are slightly less crowded and the views are just as stunning. Need a vacation to sunny Cancún?
