This is the largest and most southerly of the Mariana Islands in the Western Pacific Ocean, and an unincorporated territory of the US. The main tourist area is Tumon, where modern holiday complexes stand near beaches famous for their spectacular wildlife. Beaches and Water Sports There are azure-blue waters and golden sands aplenty here in Tamuning. Many major hotels and resorts are located around Tumon Bay, but there are a variety of other beaches to discover. Trendy Ypao Beach is equipped for sunbathing, shopping, eating and entertainment, while Gun Beach is popular with divers and snorkelers. Fai Fai Beach provides a secluded spot – also ideal for keen snorkelers – or there is the remote Tanguisson Beach, which features striking rock formations. Visitors can swing by Coco Palm Garden Beach, a private day resort, to access a wide range of activities and water sports, or paddle out to the stunning Alpat Island. Guam is the closest island to the Marianas Trench, which is the deepest area of the world’s oceans; it is estimated to be nearly 11 kilometers to the sea bed. In 2012, Titanic director James Cameron went down the trench in a deep-sea submergence vehicle. Two Lovers Point To enjoy incredible panoramic views, the Two Lovers Point Park in the north is the best place to head to. This stunning cliff-top lookout is home to Guam’s greatest legend. The tragic story tells of a daughter from a wealthy family who fell in love with a poor Chamorro warrior. To avoid her being forced into an arranged marriage, they ran away together with the army in pursuit, and threw themselves off the cliffs into Tumon Bay. Besides the breath-taking scenery here, there are also a variety of sights and facilities; these include the KAHA Art Gallery, pavilions, telescopes and a picnic area. A trolley service to this idyllic place runs all day from the DFS Galleria and the Micronesia Mall. Shopping and Entertainment From the exhilarating Guam Slingshot ride, an extreme vertical attraction reaching heights of 230 feet and speeds of up to 100 mph, to the numerous water slides at the Tarza Magical Adventure Zone and Water Park, there are plenty of activities for families and adrenaline-junkies. Chamorro Village is a must-visit outdoor mall, which acts as a center for cultural events as well as a hot spot for excellent retail. This place is full of the tempting aromas of fresh local delicacies, such as banana egg rolls drizzled in honey (banana lumpia) and chicken or pork BBQ sticks. More than 100 shops and restaurants can be found at the Agana Shopping Center, while luxury boutiques and international cuisine is available at The Plaza, accessed via the Outrigger Guam Resort Lobby.
