Another popular spot is the Sacré-Cœur Basilica in the Montmartre district, which is a Roman Catholic Church accessed via the Rue Foyatier, a street of steps, and positioned at the highest point in the city. It has an exquisite ceiling mosaic that is one of largest in the world. Alternatively, the ascent can be made on the historic Montmartre funicular railway that runs up and down the hill regularly.

Also well worth a visit is the Place de la Concorde, the biggest public square in Paris with two imposing fountains. For a break from the urban bustle, the beautifully kept grounds of the Luxembourg Palace, where the French Senate meets, provide a picturesque haven to unwind and take a relaxing walk.

Arts and Culture

Appreciators of classical art flock to Musée d'Orsay to see masterpieces by the likes of Cézanne, Monet, Van Gogh and Renoir; fans of contemporary art head for the Musée National d’Art Moderne in the Centre Georges Pompidou. There is also the world-renowned Louvre Museum, where sightseers can be awestruck by the ornate painted ceilings – not to mention the famous Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo.

There are many opportunities for cultural evening entertainment in Paris, such as the refined productions staged at the Paris Opera, or the more eclectic range of shows at the 19th Century Bataclan theater.

Dining and Shopping

For a short rest between attractions, there are plenty of inviting street-side cafés ideal for sipping coffee and people-watching. At the end of the day, there is a myriad of top-notch restaurants to choose from all over the city.

The French have a reputation for impeccable style and this is reflected in the chic Parisian stores. Retail locations like the luxurious Printemps Department Store and Galeries Lafayette in Boulevard Haussmann are known for their superior selection and wide variety. There is also a vast array of high-end shops lining the Avenue des Champs-Élysées. Fresh fruit, vegetables and other Gallic delicacies are available at the Marché Saint-Germain.
