This cultural gateway to the rest of Southeast Asia is known to be especially tourist-friendly. Singapore has one of the world's best airports, and its much-lauded public transportation system makes it easy to explore in comfort and style. Singapore City is also famous worldwide for its high standards of cleanliness and order; however, do not confuse this with cultural sterility! On the contrary, Singapore is filled with fascinating things to see and do there are museums and galleries, shops and boutiques, a fantastic culinary scene, and everything else you'd expect to find in a metropolitan area.
Take a leisurely stroll past the chic storefronts of Orchard Road, or delve into the cluttered antique shops of Singapore's Chinatown. Shopping not your thing? You may instead explore one of the city's beautiful parks, or focus solely on the national obsession: food. A gourmand's dream come true, Singapore shows a fervent love of all things edible. It is where the vibrant cultures of China, India and Muslim Malaysia come together to create one of the most diverse and delicious restaurant scenes in the world. Innovative combinations of flavors and techniques may be languidly savored in a five-star restaurant (many of these may be found in the many great hotels in Singapore.) However, the more 'authentic' experience is probably had in a bustling food court or open marketplace.

Along with being one of the world's eating capitals and a hotbed of designer consumerism, Singapore is also an historic and naturally beautiful place. The myth that the entire city has been entirely urbanized is just that a myth. Venture out of the busy city centre, and you may discover a surprisingly peaceful (and distinctly exotic) locale. Adventurous visitors may swim with the sharks at Underwater World, mountain bike around Bukit Timah, or even meet a family of leopards while on a Night Safari through the Singapore Zoo. The rushing Kallang River offers great opportunities for waterskiing and wakeboarding, while the thickest parts of the forest hide wild monkeys and other indigenous creatures. Actually, here's a fun fact: Singapore is only one of two cities in the world to still retain a patch of primary rainforest pretty impressive, given its reputation for being modern and industrialized to a fault.
Hotels in Singapore range from world-class spa resorts to affordable hostels, and popular attractions and activities offer something for everyone. Lovers of art and culture can check out one of the city's museums; the Singapore Art Museum, the ArtScience Museum, and the National Museum of Singapore are popular. The last one features an incredible fashion gallery with costumes and accessories from the 1950's-70's. The exhibit offers insight into Singapore's historic love of pretty things as does the Maritime Experiential Museum & Aquarium, which contains over 400 rare objects from along the ancient Maritime Silk Route. After the sun sets, you can see how this love of fashion and other material goods lives on in Singapore's hottest nightlife venues, from sleek and stylish rooftop bars to pulsating nightclubs.
