During the day, the Strip and its adjacent side streets are flooded with cars and pedestrians taking advantage of all that Las Vegas offers. Attractions along the main road and in other parts of the city include something for everyone. Visiting families may enjoy the Adventuredome Theme Park, Gameworks, or one of the many themed exhibits that replicate famous attractions all across the globe: The Luxor has eye-catching pyramids and an ancient Egyptian theme, the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino has a 460-foot replica of the Eiffel Tower, and the Flamingo resort has a real-life habitat for Chilean flamingos.
Despite it being in the middle of the Nevada desert, Las Vegas has a number of bodies of water manmade, of course, but no less impressive for it. All along the Strip, you will find large networks of swimming pools surrounded by outdoor bars and lounges, tropical gardens, slides and fountains, and other distractions. On the hottest of summer days, these pools are where all the action is. Year-round, however, there are plenty of things to see and do indoors: You can attend a live runway show at Fashion Show Mall, shop for everything from kitschy souvenirs to high-end fashions, or tour the exhibits of one of Las Vegas' museums. In a city known for its glitz and glamour, a quiet art gallery or educational museum can provide solace; try the Las Vegas Natural History Museum, or the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art.
While Las Vegas does not have much in the way of ancient history, its story is often told and embellished upon. Tales of Rat Pack shenanigans and black market intrigue add an air of mystery to the heavily air-conditioned (and often scented) air within Las Vegas' hotel casinos. The oldest still standing, built in 1906, is the Golden Gate Casino. Other historic landmarks are the Neon Museum and the Las Vegas Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement.
