Split Five Star Hotels
With 227,456 residents, Split is the largest city on Croatia's Dalmatian Adriatic coast. And with a history stretching back over 1,700 years, Split is also one of the area's oldest cities. Here you'll the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Diocletian's Palace, the Roman Palace around which the city is centered. The Palace'd remains feature well preserved streets and are complimented by Gothic and Renaissance treasures that have been built over the ages. When you're through marveling at the Palace's Golden, Silver and Iron gates, you can head to the 305 CE St. Duje's Cathedral, which started as the mausoleum of Roman Emperor Diocletian and is now the oldest Cathedral in the world. And don't forget the beaches, whose popularity is bolstered by the city's ideal climate, providing 2,700 hours of sunlight per year. Add to this the cosmopolitan atmosphere, and it's a bit surprising that Split does not offer much in the way of five-star hotels. There are many four-star luxury hotels in and around the city, but if it's five star luxury you're looking for, your choices consist of the city-centre Atrium Hotel and the beachfront Le Méridien Lav Split Hotel, located in Podstrana, eight kilometres south of the city centre. But what choices they are! Though the Atrium is brand-new, first opening its doors in 2007, this sleek marble and glass modern wonder was built right on top of the remnants of an ancient Roman aqueduct. This fabulous relic can still be seen undisturbed in the below-street level gallery next to the hotel's entrance. The hotel's wonderful location also puts you close to the city's other landmarks. For more modern amenities, you can head to the hotel's Comfort Zone Spa Wellness Centre, which offers relaxation in the form of an indoor swimming pool, a Jacuzzi and multiple saunas, as well as massage treatments. Then there's Le Méridien Lav, whose natural beauty rivals the man-made beauty of the Atrium. Set along 800 metres of prime beach, this hotel provides panoramic views of both the city and the surrounding islands, along with the opportunity to stroll among beautiful landscaped gardens. You will never go hungry or thirsty, as the hotel offers eight restaurants and bars, all offering a variety of cuisines and easy access to the excitement of the adjacent Marina Promenade. The Diocletian Spa and Wellness centre offers an indoor pool, saunas, steam baths, whirlpools, nail studios, a meditation room, five treatment rooms, a fitness centre and even a doctor's office. |
